Reindeer Oreos, complete with a shiny red nose, are an easy way to cook up a lot of fun without a lot of cooking. These adorable reindeer might not be able to pull a sleigh, but they’ll make a festive footprint on your holiday baking.
Look out! These chocolate treats are about to unseat Rudolph as the most famous reindeer of all.
Everyone’s favorite red-nosed reindeer can’t hold a candle to chocolate-covered-Oreos turned into a delightful snack. Just some cookies, candy, and pretzels (or, as I like to call them, the three main food groups) are all you need to pull off a little holiday magic.
There have been lots of game changers over the course of our history, but none quite so mind-blowing as the 1975 introduction of Double Stuf Oreos.
These optimized cookie-to-stuf beauties are indulgent all on their own, but we’re gonna dip them in chocolate! Ghiradelli melting wafers are a wonderful, mostly fool-proof, melting chocolate with plenty of rich, chocolate flavor and a lovely consistency that makes dipping things a breeze.
It’s also the perfect “glue” for attaching the other decorations on our delicate little deer.
As it turns out, those chocolate wafers are also the perfect size for a reindeer snoot! You can use dark chocolate melting wafers if you want a little more contrast in color, but either type of chocolate will add extra dimension and make the nose standout from the rest of the cookie.
A shiny, red M&M glued on top completes it. You’ll need to pick the red ones out of a box unless you just happen to be hoarding some from Valentine’s Day.
If you don’t want all Rudolphs, you can actually use the brown ones too (without decreasing the number of leftover M&Ms you have to snack on while you’re making these).
Next you’ll add two candy eyes above the nose. Candy eyes do come in a few sizes, and I’d suggest using the “small” ones (there are even some with eyelashes that are super cute!).
Once the reindeer have chilled out in the fridge, all that’s left is to add the antlers. This couldn’t be simpler with a few mini pretzels. You can use them whole or break them in half horizontally (long-ways) so they more closely resemble actual antlers.
Either will finish off these cutie patooties perfectly!
These will last a little longer if you keep them in the fridge, but they’ll be happy in an air-tight container on your countertop too.
Reindeer Oreos are a highly sought after addition to school holiday parties, and I’ve received gushing thank you notes from Santa when these get left out with a glass of milk on Christmas Eve.
Eyes – Wilton makes several sizes of the edible eyes, and you can buy them online or at places that carry Wilton products. If you can’t find them, you can use mini marshmallows with mini chocolate chips in the middle (using the melted chocolate as glue for both). White chocolate chips with a dot of melted milk chocolate in the middle works too.
Pops – Want Reindeer Oreo Lollipops? Gently separate an Oreo, dip one end of a lollipop sticks into the melted chocolate, and place the chocolate-coated stick into the fluffy white Oreo filling. Quickly put the other side of the Oreo cookie back on top and press it for a few seconds to make sure the chocolate’s done its work to “glue” the Oreo back together. Then you can follow the recipe as written. When you dip the Oreos in chocolate, make sure to coat a little of the lollipop stick too for a little more stability.

- Yield: Makes 24
- Double Stuf Oreos - 1 Package
- M&M's (Red's Picked Out) - 2 Boxes
- Ghiradelli Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers - 2 Bags
- Small Edible Eyes - 2 Packages
- Mini Pretzel Twists - 1 Bag
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Using a double boiler, melt 1 bag of the chocolate wafers, mixing gradually with a rubber spatula until completely melted.
Using a fork, dip the Oreo into the chocolate and flip the cookie over to fully coat it.
Slowly pick up the Oreo with the fork and lightly tap the edge of the pot to shake off the excess chocolate.
Place onto cookie sheet and repeat steps with remaining cookies.
Place a non-melted chocolate wafer onto the lower part of the Oreo for the snout.
Take a red M&M and dip the bottom into the leftover melted chocolate, then place it onto the wafer for the nose.
Place two eyes above the mouth.
Repeat steps with remaining cookies.
Place Oreos into the fridge for 20 minutes or until chocolate is hardened. Once chocolate is hard, flip Oreos over.
Dip the bottoms of two pretzels into melted chocolate and place onto the corners of the back of the Oreo for the antlers.
Repeat step with remaining cookies.
Let chocolate harden before enjoying!
