Ingredients
8largeeggs
1 1/2cupshalf and half
3/4cup, plus 1 tablespoonbrown sugar,packed
2teaspoonsvanilla extract
10ounceFrench baguette,diagonally sliced, 3/4 inch thick
Whisk custard. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
Soak bread. Pour custard into a 9x13 pan. Lay baguette slices in the pan and let sit 15 minutes, then flip. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Make praline base. Melt butter, then whisk in remaining brown sugar (3/4 cup), maple syrup, and pecans. Pour into the bottom of a clean 9x13 pan.
Assemble. Lift baguette slices from the custard pan and arrange them over the praline mixture. Pour the custard into a liquid measuring cup, then pour evenly over the bread.
Bake. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake 45–50 minutes, until the center is set (no wet jiggle) and reads about 160°F if temping.
Serve. Invert slices so the praline topping is on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Eggs: I use large eggs.
French Baguette: Cut the loaf on a diagonal to get longer pieces.
Maple Syrup: Use pure maple syrup in this recipe! It's worth the splurge! Skip the maple-flavored syrup.
Timing: Remember this needs to be refrigerated overnight.
