Like a rice crispy deluxe—these Avalanche Bars are an upgraded childhood treat that is loaded with extra goodies. The name stems from the use of white chocolate—and marshmallows—these are delicious! With no danger involved.Â
If you’re feeling nostalgic, these sweets won’t let you down. Try the classics, rice Krispie, or fluffernutter Rice Krispie treats. You can make it colorful with Fruity Pebble treats or make Haystacks for the chocolate lovers in your life. Â
A is for Avalanche…A tumble of sweet flavors comes together as one, in no time flat. These avalanche bars are an appropriately named treat that is sure to be a hit with everyone. Crispy, chewy, chocolatey sweetness—it’s easy to make a mountain of flavor.
This recipe is so simple, it’s a great way to get the younger cooks in the family involved. These bars are easy to slice and share for any occasion. Arguably one of the most casual treats, this version just kicks it up a notch.Â
This is at the top of my list of mix & make desserts. A classic treat gets dressed up for kids of all ages. Because they need to cool, these are perfect to make ahead of time.
The hardest part is letting them cool down enough to slice. Let’s make these!
Ingredients
- White Chocolate Chips
- Creamy Peanut Butter – I prefer creamy peanut butter, but you can use chunky peanut butter if you want. It adds a bit of extra crunch and texture.
- Rice Krispies
- Mini Marshmallows
- Mini Chocolate Chips
TipsÂ
- Melting the white chocolate– Go low and slow in the microwave. You just want the chips to melt, and they should never get too hot to touch. White chocolate can burn quickly, so err on the side of caution with your power level and time if you’re using the microwave. You can also melt them in a double-boiler.
- Don’t press too hard- These avalanche rice krispie treats become super dense and hard if you compact them too much. When you’re spreading them into the pan, press down just enough to get and smooth top. I like to keep mine as thick as possible.
Storing + Freezing + Make-Ahead
- How Long Can You Keep This In The Fridge? In a well-sealed container, these avalanche krispie bars stay fresh for about 4-5 days. According to cookie food handling guidelines, if you froze them, they should hold for close to 6 months.
- Can You Freeze This? Â You could freeze this Avalanche Bars recipe, but I find they’re so quick to whip up that I usually don’t bother. If you do freeze them, be sure to allow them to completely defrost before serving them.
- Make-Ahead Tips: Â Since these bars hold really well, you can make these several days ahead of time. Otherwise, they only take a few minutes to whip up!
Recipe Variations
- Change it up – One of the most fun things about these rocky mountain avalanche bars is you can change up just about any ingredient. You could try a different type of cereal, or butterscotch chips instead of white chocolate. You throw mini M&M’s or peanut butter chips in the mix. The sky’s the limit! Just be mindful of the texture and taste combinations you’re creating.
