Everyone claims to have THE recipe for the perfect chocolate chip cookies. So, I’ll just say these thick, soft, chewy, chips laden dudes are my #1 favs!
How many times have you read a blog post that claims to have the recipe for the perfect chocolate chip cookies? I’ve read tons. I don’t know if there is actually oneperfect recipe. What I do know is, as of right now, these are my most favorite chocolate chip cookies in the whole world. They’re thick, soft, and wonderfully chewy and have lots of chocolate chips. That’s what I want most in my chocolate chip cookie.
Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 2/3 Cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- 2/3 cup butter-flavored shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar packed
- 2 eggs large
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup pecans chopped-optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Stir the pecans and chocolate chips. Using a large cookie scoop, scoop dough onto a silpat lined cookie sheet.
- Bake 14-16 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the centers are set. Don't overbake. Cool 5 minutes before removing cookies to cooling rack.

This is just the way I like my chocolate chip cookies. It's the chewy center I go for.
I so agree with you. How many names are there for the 'perfect' chocolate chip cookies? There's the 'world's best', the blue ribbon', even 'grandma's top secret…' and just as you said they very rarely measure up to their title.
The funny thing is, years ago I became obsessed with finding/creating what I thought was the perfect choc chip cookie and after doing so kept it to myself out of selfishness. I'll be damned if it isn't the exact same recipe! All that work and I could've just checked all recipes:) I believe the key is the two eggs – gives that chewiness in the center while the use of both shortening and butter ensures a better texture too. Oh well – no need to keep mine a secret anymore!
Thanks for sharing – your blog is absolutely gorgeous!
You had me at cookie.
They certainly look perfect to me. So I deem the perfect chocolate chip cookie! GREG
If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one food it would be chocolate chip cookies.

Hey! First time commenting! These look great… amazing how many recipes there can be for one awesome cookie!
Wondering, why butter-flavored shortening and not all butter? And what kind would you use?
Now I want a cookie, and it's only 9:30 in Los Angeles! I should probably just concentrate on finishing my coffee!!
