Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted butter softened
- 1 cup dark brown sugar firmly packed
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177ºC).
- Cream the butter and sugars. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter (1 cup) with both sugars (1 cup dark brown sugar + 3/4 cup granulated sugar) until incorporated.
- Add the eggs and vanilla. Add the eggs (2) and vanilla extract (1 teaspoon) and mix in.
- Add the leaveners and salt. Add the baking powder (1/2 teaspoon), baking soda (1/2 teaspoon), and salt (1 teaspoon).
- Add the flour. Add the flour, 1 cup at a time (3 cups).
- Add the chocolate chips. Add the mini chocolate chips (3/4 cup) and make sure they are incorporated throughout the dough.
- Fill the pastry bag. Place about 2 cups of the dough into a disposable pastry bag (one that you can cut the tip off).
- Pipe the cookies. Squeeze a small drop of cookie dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, about the size of a quarter. You can fit about 40 cookies on a baking sheet.
- Bake. Bake for about 7 minutes, or until the cookies appear set. They will continue to bake out of the oven as they set on the baking sheet.
- Cool. Leave the cookies on the baking sheet for about 4–5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Notes
- Think quarter, not tablespoon. These are truly mini cookies! Keeping each drop of dough about the size of a quarter helps them bake evenly and gives you that adorable bite-sized shape.
- Don’t overbake. Seven minutes goes quickly with cookies this small. Take them out when they look set, rather than waiting for them to become deeply golden. They’ll finish baking on the hot pan.
- Make the piping bag work for you. The original recipe recommends cutting about 1½ inches off the tip of a disposable pastry bag. Pipe straight onto the parchment for a much faster way to portion a batch this large.
- Work in batches. This recipe makes about 245 cookies, so have several sheets of parchment ready and portion only about 2 cups of dough into your piping bag at a time.
- Keep the size consistent. Uniform cookies aren’t just prettier—they’ll finish baking at the same time. If some are noticeably larger, they’ll still be underbaked when the smallest ones are ready.
- No pastry bag? Use a teaspoon. Portion small, consistent amounts of dough with a teaspoon instead. There’s no need to skip the recipe just because you don’t have piping bags.
- Let them rest on the pan. That 4–5 minute cooling time isn’t just for convenience. The cookies are still finishing up on the hot baking sheet, so don’t rush them straight onto the cooling rack.
- You can also use a stand mixer to mix the dough.
- Storage: Store leftover cookies in an airtight container. For longer storage, place them in an airtight, freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months.
