There is nothing like the scent of butter, sugar, and cinnamon in the kitchen, and my Cracker Barrel fried apples fits the bill! This recipe brings back memories of going to Cracker Barrel and ordering a side of Fried Apples.
So warm and silky smooth with the tart-sweet apples swimming in a cinnamon and nutmeg butter sauce that is heavenly. This three-step recipe is simply delicious.
Cracker Barrel fried apples is a perfect side dish for pork chops or meatloaf, and can also be served as dessert with a dollop of whipped cream or with a bowl of ice cream (my favorite way!).
CRACKER BARREL FRIED APPLES INGREDIENTS
- Butter: Unsalted butter adds so much flavor to the apples.
- Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples: These varietals will give you the perfect texture and sweetness.
- Sugar: Granulated white sugar
- Brown sugar: Light brown sugar adds richness and sweet warmth.
- Cinnamon: A classic spice that pairs perfectly with apples.
- Nutmeg: A pungent warm, nutty spice.
TIPS
- No Browning: To prevent browning, place the peeled apples in salted water. Or squeeze a lemon on top of them. Don’t worry, the oxidation of apples is not harmful and does not affect taste.
- Gather Ingredients: This recipe comes together quickly so gathering the other ingredients first, then peeling and cutting apples last is a good way to avoid browning.
HOW TO MAKE CRACKER BARREL FRIED APPLES
- Melt the butter in a skillet.
- Add the apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the melted butter.
- Stir to coat with butter. Cook and cover for 11-14 minutes. Stir occasionally until the apples are tender.
- Serve and top with vanilla ice cream.
