Why This Recipe Works
- Shortcut topping: Using Bisquick gives you a foolproof cobbler crust in minutes.
- Classic flavors: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar bring warm, nostalgic apple-pie vibes.
- Versatile dessert: Perfect on its own, or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate finish.
- Crowd-pleaser: Comfort food at its best — this is one dessert where everyone comes back for seconds.
Before You Start
✨ Pick your apples wisely: Firm, baking-friendly apples hold up best. (More details below!)
✨ Grease generously: Use butter to coat your baking dish for the best flavor and to prevent sticking.
✨ Don’t overmix the topping: Stir just until combined for a soft, tender dough.
✨ Golden cue: The cobbler is done when the topping is deep golden brown and the fruit filling bubbles up around the edges.
✨ Rest before serving: Let the cobbler sit for 5–10 minutes after baking so the filling can thicken slightly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use canned or frozen apples?
Fresh apples are best, but you can use frozen (thawed and drained) apples in a pinch. Canned pie filling will make the dessert much sweeter.
What other fruits work with this recipe?
Try swapping apples for peaches, berries, or pears — Bisquick cobbler topping works beautifully with most fruits.
How do I know the cobbler is done?
Look for a golden crust and bubbling fruit filling. A toothpick inserted in the topping should come out clean.

I haven’t yet made your recipe, but it looks great, similar to the one my mom made when I was growing up. I had a question though. In the directions, it says to grease the pan with 6 tablespoons of butter, but the ingredients say 6 tablespoons of butter, melted, & extra to grease the pan. I know I need that melted butter to mix in for the dough, so I’m just confused by the direction to use 6 tablespoons to grease the pan.
Hi, Sandy! Ooops, apologies for this. Grease the pan with just a right amount of butter. The 6 tablespoons of butter should be melted and mixed with dough mixture. This has been corrected, thanks for letting me know!
Excellent! Yummy! I used two Granny Smith apples, less sugar (for my diet), Left skins on. They provided a nice, tart bite, but were tender. Used extra cinnamon and nutmeg to compensate for less
sugar. So delicious! Next time I will use a third apple. I can’t show a picture because I ate half of it before I read the picture request.
Hi! Your version is so yummy! I hope there’s a button for sharing photos here. I’m so happy you liked this cobbler. Thank you 🙂
Yum! I have lots of Bisquick in my pantry, I tried this and it’s sooo good!
It’s my pantry staple too. Thanks, Janine! 🙂
