We all love the classics — a tart apple martini, a nose-tickling sloe gin fizz, or a citrus kick lime rickey — but that’s not quite HOLIDAY enough. I love to really bring the holiday flavors home in a delicious cocktail, like this pumpkin pie martini!
Cream liqueur, vanilla vodka, pumpkin pie spice, and even some real pumpkin puree mix up into your new favorite beverage. Let’s get whipping up some holiday magic!

Recipe Notes
- Amarula Cream Liqueur:Â This starring ingredient is a South African delicacy made from the fruit of the marula tree. It’s rich and creamy and my first choice to use in this recipe. This is what gives this martini its irresistible rich flavor!
- Substitutions for Amarula
- Rumchata: Â This is another cream liqueur that is a mouthwatering mixture of cream, spices, vanilla, and — you guessed it — rum. If I don’t have any Amarula on hand I use this instead to mix up this martini.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice:Â Ah, this classic seasoning mix just screams holiday, doesn’t it? A combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice, this flavor combo is what makes your tastebuds go PUMPKIN PIE!

Pumpkin Pie Martini
Ingredients
For Rim:
- simple syrup
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Cocktail:
- 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka
- 1 ounces Amarula Cream Liqueur or Creme de Cacao liqueur or Rumchata
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Garnish:
- cool whip
- pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
- Add simple syrup to a small rimmed plate.
- Mix together 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice on a small plate. Shake or spread into a flat layer.
- Dip martini glass in simple syrup. Dip in sugar and pumpkin pie spice.
- Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add all cocktail ingredients to shaker. Shake vigorous. (You'll need to shake this more than other martinis to mix in the pumpkin puree.) Strain into glass.
- Top with whipped cream or Redi Whip and garnish with a little pumpkin pie spice. Enjoy!

I apologise for my harshness. I was in a bad mood and it was uncalled for. I’m sure this cocktail tastes fine, but serving it in a martini glass doesn’t make it a martini. A martini is a martini, a long island is a long island, a fuzzy navel is a fuzzy navel, and a pumpkin cocktail is a pumpkin cocktail. You can serve any of those in a martini glass and only one of them will still be a martini. I’m not saying this to be an ass, it’s more like a bartending lesson.
