This is the way to eat your greens! These Air Fryer Green Beans come out crisp-tender, bright green, lightly seasoned, and downright irresistible. They’re nothing like those sad, mushy canned beans we all grew up pushing around the plate — these are fresh, snappy, and full of flavor.
Why this recipe is so delicious: The air fryer works its magic in minutes, giving you perfectly crisp-tender green beans without turning on the oven. A simple blend of garlic, onion, sea salt, and pepper adds big flavor with almost zero effort — and that final squeeze of lemon wakes everything right up.

Let’s whip up a batch together — you’re going to love how simple and delicious these greens can be.
✨ Before You Begin
-
✨ No preheating needed (depending on your model): Some air fryers require it, others don’t. The model used for this recipe does not need preheating.
-
✨ Choose fresh beans: Canned or frozen beans won’t deliver that crisp-tender bite.
-
✨ Season generously: Green beans love bold seasoning — don’t be shy with the garlic and onion powder.
-
✨ Toss halfway: This ensures even cooking and keeps every bean crisp and vibrant.
-
✨ Finish with lemon: A little acidity brightens the entire dish.
Air Fryer Green Beans Ingredients + Key Notes
This is just a quick glance at what you’ll need. For exact measurements and the full ingredient list, head down to the recipe card below.
-
Fresh green beans — Trimmed and stemmed. Fresh makes all the difference in texture.
-
Olive oil — Helps the seasonings stick and promotes browning.
-
Sea salt — Enhances flavor and keeps things fresh rather than flat.
-
Onion powder + garlic powder — Classic, savory seasoning that works beautifully on green beans.
-
Black pepper — Adds the perfect subtle bite
⭐ Pro Tips
-
⭐ Don’t skip the oil: Even that tablespoon makes a huge difference in browning and texture.
-
⭐ Cook time depends on your air fryer: Every model runs a little differently. Start checking around the 7–8 minute mark.
-
⭐ Want them softer? Add an extra 2 minutes for a more tender bite.
-
⭐ Love bold flavor? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the seasoning.
-
⭐ Add Parmesan at the end: Carryover heat melts the cheese perfectly without overcooking your beans.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER GREEN BEANS
Rinse and trim your green beans, then toss them with olive oil and seasonings until everything is evenly coated. Arrange the beans in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re in a mostly even layer (a little overlap is okay). Air fry at 350ºF for 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway. Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and serve!
Storing + Reheating + Freezing + Make-Ahead Tips
Storing
- Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days.
Reheating
- Pop them back into the air fryer at 325ºF for 2–3 minutes to re-crisp. The microwave works, but the beans will soften.
Freezing
- Not recommended — green beans lose their snap after freezing and thawing.
Make-Ahead
- Trim the beans and mix the seasoning in advance. Cook right before serving for best results.
Air Fryer Green Beans Variations
-
Add Parmesan
After cooking, sprinkle 2–3 tablespoons of grated Parmesan over the hot beans. Don’t turn the air fryer back on — the carryover heat melts it perfectly. Close the basket for 30–60 seconds, then serve with chives or parsley. -
Spice It Up
Add red pepper flakes when you season the beans for a subtle, delicious kick. -
Lemon-Pepper Green Beans
Swap the ground pepper for lemon pepper seasoning and finish with an extra squeeze of fresh lemon juice for a bright, zesty twist. -
Smoky Paprika Beans
Add ½ teaspoon smoked paprika to the seasoning mix for a warm, smoky flavor that pairs especially well with grilled mains. -
Garlic-Parmesan “Loaded” Green Beans
After air frying, toss the beans with an extra pinch of garlic powder, freshly minced parsley, and a tablespoon of finely grated Parmesan. Serve immediately for maximum flavor. -
Low-Sodium Version
Reduce the sea salt by half and bump up the garlic and onion powder for flavor without relying on salt. -
Low-Oil Option
Use an olive oil spray instead of drizzling full tablespoons. You’ll still get great browning and crispness with less oil. - Asian-Style Green Beans
After air frying, toss the hot beans with 1–2 teaspoons soy sauce, a drizzle of toasted sesame oil, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or sliced green onions for a simple, flavorful twist inspired by your Asian Green Beans.
