Blueberry dump cake is simple to make and is a classic American dessert using both fresh blueberries and canned blueberry pie filling. In minutes, you will have a warm, delicious dessert ready to serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This dessert has only four ingredients and the technique in my recipe is so much better than the melted-butter method. Trust me, the crusty topping comes out evenly baked with the crunchy-cakey texture you expect. It’s topped with fresh blueberries with blueberry pie filling beneath. I hope you love this recipe as much as I do!

Blueberry Dump Cake Ingredients
- Boxed cake mix: Your choice of brand and variety – white or yellow cake mix
- Fresh Blueberries
- Blueberry pie filling: Brand of your choice.
- Butter: Salted
Tips
- Preparation: Do not stir the ingredients, just pop it in the oven.
- To Melt or Slice: This recipe does not use melted butter. By placing the cold butter evenly on top of the mix, the cake cooks perfectly every time! I found that using melted butter sometimes does not work out well.
- How To Serve: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Storing + Freezing + Make-Ahead
- How Long Can You Keep This in The Fridge? Once made, your blueberry dump cake will last up to two days in the fridge.
- Can You Freeze This? I do not recommend freezing.
- Make-Ahead: This dessert should ideally be served warm, right out of the oven.

So for the dump cake, you don’t prepare the cake mix, you just put the dry mix over the blueberries?
Hi, Monika. Yes, just put the dry mix over the blueberries 🙂
