Garbage bread is one of those savory treats that your friends will ask for over the over. Seasoned hamburger, crisp bacon, and two cheeses, all wrapped up in a warm crusty dough. This appetizer is perfect for game day or any gathering.

Garbage Bread Ingredients
- Bacon: Use your favorite cut, thickness or flavor
- Ground Beef: I use 20/80 and drain the fat
- Onion: I used a brown onion
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is best
- Cajun Seasoning: This ingredient makes everything sing! Use any brand you desire.
- Black Pepper: I use fresh cracked black pepper.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Velveeta Cheese
- Mozzarella: I use low-moisture part-skim mozzarella
- Pizza Crust: I use Pillsbury brand refrigerated pizza crust
Tips
- Cool It! Make sure to cool the filling completely, or the crust will start to melt. The crust should be rolled out large enough to hold the filling, but also thick enough so it doesn’t break when rolling.
- Leave A Margin: When rolling the bread, be sure to keep the edges clean (no juices or filling) and keep it tight. Seal the edges thoroughly. You will get a nice swirl when cutting the baked bread!
- Variations: this is garbage bread which pretty much means you can use any ingredient in the fridge! You can use pepper jack or cheddar cheese, any ground meat (chicken or sausage). You can also use sauteed veggies (I suggest onions and/or peppers) or add a little pizza sauce. Just make sure that you don’t overfill the bread.
- Frozen French Bread: You can also use frozen French bread, found in the freezer section of your grocery store. Thaw and roll out as instructed.
Storing + Freezing + Make Ahead
- How Long Can You Keep This in The Fridge? Once cooked and cooled, your garbage bread will last up to three days in the fridge.
- Can You Freeze This? You can freeze the bread after it is rolled but before baking. Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then foil, and freeze. When ready to eat, thaw the bread in the refrigerator and bake according to the directions.
- Make-Ahead: You can make the garbage bread ahead of time. You can serve at room temperature or warm the bread briefly in the microwave oven; or warm it in the oven at 250ºF (121ºC) for 15-20 minutes, or until warmed.

Hi Kathleen! Just wondering how many servings were used to calculate the Nutrition Info, as you said the recipe was 4-6 servings. Thanks so much!
Hi, Terry. 2 slices per person. 🙂
Me and my son loved it! Next time we’ll add some jalapenos 🙂
Thanks, Riza! I’m glad it was a hit! Also the jalapenos, yum!!
Can you make this with puff pastery?
Hey Pat. I haven’t tried it with puff pastry, but I think it would be delicious! If you try it, I’d love to hear how it comes out!
