Lets make this!
TikTok Chicken Cobbler Ingredients
- Butter: Use either salted or unsalted butter. It’s melted so you don’t need to pull it out early.
- Chicken: I like to use a Costco rotisserie chicken for this recipe. Using all the white meat and some of the dark, it can easily yield 4 cups of cubed or shredded chicken. Then I have the wings and drumsticks left over for snacking!
- Vegetable Mix: I like to use frozen peas, carrots, corn, and green bean mix. No need to thaw or drain it. I pull it straight from the freezer and layer it in the casserole.
- Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuit Mix: Be sure you save the little flavor packet inside the box with the biscuit mix. It’s only about a 2-inch square packet so be on the lookout for it and don’t skip adding it.
- Milk: I use whole milk for the best flavor in the biscuit topping.
- Stock: I used regular stock from the carton. I didn’t add any extra salt though.
- Cream Of Chicken Soup: Feel free to change up the flavor a bit with a “cream of soup” flavor of your liking.
- Black Pepper: Adds the perfect punch of pepper.
- Garlic Powder: Adds a touch of garlic that’s just right!
Tips
- Doneness: As this casserole bakes, sometimes the biscuit top will separate. When this happens, the center may look too wet to seem done. If the rest of the top is golden brown, you’re good! It’s simply the sauce bubbling up through the topping.
- After you allow it to set for 15 minutes, it will look more cooked, but it still may have a puddle of the super delicious sauce coming through.
Variations
- Fried Onions: Some recipes call to add 2 cups of fried onions to the top of the casserole. If you’d like to try the casserole with the onions, bake it for 45 minutes, remove from the oven, add fried onions, and continue to bake for 10-15 minutes.
- Less Chicken Broth: Some recipes call for 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth rather than 2 cups. Frankly, I think the recipe as written below, has the perfect amount of broth.
Storing + Freezing + Make-Ahead
- How Long Can You Keep This In The Fridge? Once fully cooked, this casserole will keep in your fridge for 3-4 days.
- Can You Freeze This? Yes, this can be frozen. Thoroughly cool your casserole and properly seal it (either with your casserole lid or plastic wrap), and you can store it in the freezer for six months
- Make-Ahead Tips: Cut or cube the chicken and store it in a resealable bag in the fridge until you’re ready to assemble the casserole.
- Food Safety: If you’d like more info on food safety check out this link.
Serving Recommendations
This casserole is a delicious complete meal in one baking pan! My family generally needs a bread side dish like butter swim biscuit, Bisquick biscuits, bakery-worthy no-knead bread, sweet-cakey Bisquick cornbread, or my amazingly buttery, homemade crescent rolls.
I also like to have some extra vegetable crunch like my copycat KFC coleslaw, Mediterranean salad, brown sugar glazed carrots, Arkansas green beans, or crockpot cream corn!

So easy and so delish! Big hit! Thank you!! One small suggestion to make it a tad easier: slice up the stick of butter — so don’t melt! — and put it in the baking pan; then put the pan into the oven as it’s preheating. The butter will melt as you grab what else you need to start the layering process. Remove the pan once it’s close to melted, as the oven continues to heat up, and swirl it evenly around by tipping it every which way. One less dirty dish to wash. 🙂
Hi Ludgirl. Great tip I appreciate you leaving it! Thanks so much for the 5 star rating!!
My Husband loves this! Thanks!
(I only used 1.5 cup of broth)
Hey, Lilith! That’s awesome, husband approved! 🙂 Thanks for the positive feedback and 5-star rating!
This is so delish!!! I always make it. It is easy and what a yummy comfort food!!
So happy you enjoy this recipe, Kelly! Thanks so much for leaving a comment and the 5 star rating.
What seasoning could I use in place of old bay? I looked it up and everything said it’s spicy and for seafood, which we eat none of. This looks delicious and I’m hoping to try it soon!! Thanks for any advice you can give!!
Hey, Amy. You can use cajun seasoning. Or ” 1/4 teaspoon each of celery salt and paprika for every 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning.”
Sorry, called unconstrained pot pie – old family recipe. Oops on 7k with crunchy in message. Didn’t scroll back to proofread and no, biscuits aren’t hard or crunchy but not moist like dumplings.
I’m 80 and have been making a version of this for years calling it unconstrained pot pie, but mostly from scratch. Roux of flour and butter, cream, 1T cooking sherry, poultry seasoning to taste, S&P to taste, shredded chicken,(or turkey-(grew up on a turkey farm) 1 bag frozen mixed vegetables
Make biscuits separately (add cheese and garlic/spice seasonings, if desired, spoon melted butter over biscuits before baking.Spoon pot pie filling over biscuits or serve separately.
My family prefers to eat 2-3 hot biscuits with a bowl of the filling separately. Biscuits stay 7k”crunchier” less like moist dumplings.
Thank you for sharing! 🙂 Love your version too! Thanks for the positive feedback and 5 star review 🙂
I absolutely loved this recipe! First, it’s easy as pie. So simple – if you’re afraid of cooking, this is the recipe to try! I loved to cook and I have some pretty complex recipes. That’s why I love a recipe like this – not only because it’s easy, but also because it tastes sooooooooooo good! I had it with a yummy salad with some cherry tomatoes, salt and pepper, and a simple balsamic vinaigrette.
Hey, Kevin! Wow, thank you so much! It’s really easy, right? And you perfectly paired this with salad 🙂
I don’t usually write reviews but this is fantastic! My family loved it and I sent the recipe to all my friends! You can’t go wrong with this one!!!
That’s awesome! So happy it was a hit 🙂
Thanks for the recipe. It was easy and delicious. For those unable to find Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix, it is probably comparable to use any biscuit mix. The Red Lobster brand does not actually contain cheese unless you add it in and the only special thing about it is that it has a garlic and herb packet, which you can probably simulate with spices used to make garlic herb butter.
So happy you enjoyed this chicken cobbler, Valerie. Great tip. Thanks for the 5 star grating!!
I really don’t know what Red Lobster r cheddar biscuit mix is. Any substitutions?
Hi, Jan. I haven’t tried it with other brands.
But a ready wrote this, I hope this helps:
“I’ve made this topping using bisquick and cheddar. I’ve used a biscuit recipe and added cheese. I believe the trick here is to thin both down so that it can rise through the chicken soup/stock layer. If trying to thin the biscuit batter down makes you nervous…layer chicken, vegetable, spice, soup and a bit wetter biscuit dough on Top. Really, it’s going to work”
Me and my sister made this! We loved it
Thank you so much, Grace!
Love your recipes and have saved many of them. Would like to try this but I live in the boonies , limited stores, and am still too stubborn to resort to Amazon for food! Substitution for Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuit Mix?
Gosh Debbie. I’ve only made this with the Red Lobster Cheddar Mix. Sorry!!!
I’ve made this topping using bisquick and cheddar. Really, it’s going to work…and be yummy! Just have fun!
Thanks Kaye!
I like the recipe, But why is it only available to share by using Facebook…Not everyone uses this…??
